The Wisdom Project

Carol, age 75

What are the top 1-3 things you would like to pass on to others? How did you learn this?

My greatest self-image is based on what God thinks of me.  He created me and loves me unconditionally. He wants the best for me.

You’ve seen a lot of significant events and changes over the course of your life. What wisdom can you share from your observations and experiences of the world in your lifetime so far?

Treat others the way you want to be treated.

  1. Kindness and compassion
  2. Put yourself in the other person’s shoes; by not judging them and trying to understand their feelings.

The world is constantly changing, and history eventually repeats itself.

When I was young, we only had black and white TV. Did not own a computer until I was in my 40s. No cell phones either.

What obstacles and disappointments have you faced that you were able to put into perspective, turn into a positive, and/or contribute to in a way that made things better? What did you learn from these experiences that you can share with those who did not have those same experiences?

The greatest disappointment I faced was getting a divorce after 25 years of marriage. Because my self-image was based on what God thinks of me (not my ex-husband), I was able to move forward with my life in a positive way. I have been remarried now for 21 years and counting. I pray that all my grandchildren will grow up to have a positive self-image. Trouble, disappointment and hurt can come into everyone’s lives, but how you see yourself will affect how you deal with your circumstances.
